Not sure your doors still meet their rating? Veritas inspects each door assembly. Fire Door Inspection
What do FD30 and FD60 mean?
Integrity is how long the door stops flames and hot gases passing through it in a fire test. The rating applies to the whole tested assembly, including the frame, hinges, closer, glazing and seals, not the leaf alone. The rating a door needs is set by its location in the building's fire strategy and Approved Document B.
What does the S in FD30S mean?
The S shows the door has been tested for smoke leakage and must have smoke seals fitted. See Fire Door Seals.
What is the European classification?
Doors tested to the European standard BS EN 1634-1 are classified under BS EN 13501-2 with an E number for integrity, such as E30 or E60, and Sa for smoke control. British FD ratings come from BS 476-22. The two are not directly interchangeable, so a door is assessed against the evidence for the standard it was tested to.
How do you identify a fire door's rating?
Look for a certification label or a coloured plug, usually on the top edge or hinge edge of the leaf. The label leads back to the manufacturer's certificate. A door with no identification cannot be confirmed as fire-rated without further evidence, and is recorded as such in a fire door inspection.
How long do fire doors last?
There is no fixed lifespan. A fire door keeps its rating for as long as it is maintained in the condition it was tested in. Damage, worn seals, missing screws or a closer that no longer latches the door all reduce its performance, which is why it is checked regularly; see Fire Door Inspection Checklist.
